Space Systems Engineer - SC cleared

Are you a SC cleared Space Systems Engineer looking for a new challenge within the defence sector? Our client, a leading organisation in Space Command capabilities, is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a background that includes sensors, data distribution networks and LEO spacecraft / cubesats to join their team in Bristol. This role offers the flexibility of hybrid working, with key onsite presence required 1 to 3 days per week.
 
Location: Bristol (Hybrid)
Contract Duration: Until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension
Security Clearance: SC clearance is essential
Day Rate: £420 to £570 (ex VAT)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Hours: 7.5 hours per day

About the Role

You will be delivering system requirements documentation, engineering test plans, and acceptance strategies for critical Space Command capabilities. Your expertise will support the design and realisation of complex space systems, including sensors, data distribution networks, and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) spacecraft or cubesats. You will collaborate with Space Sub-themes, DE&S technical leads, DSTL experts, and Space Command sponsors to deliver rapid, effective solutions aligned with tight launch schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the generation and management of ESS requirements, ensuring clear technical deliverables and task updates for subsystems.
  • Utilise technical data to support engineering documentation management, aiming for successful technical outcomes.
  • Identify, escalate, and mitigate risks related to safety, environment, supportability, and finances.
  • Design and oversee subsystem, component, or process development, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, time, cost, and performance constraints.
  • Participate in and review system testing, verification, validation, and evaluation processes.
  • Review contractor engineering outputs, providing clear feedback and guidance.
  • Attend technical meetings with contractors, users, sponsors, and internal teams, fostering collaboration and clarity throughout project delivery.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive experience providing technical advice and leading successful Systems Engineering outcomes within complex systems.
  • Proven background in sensor systems, data networks, and space platforms such as LEO spacecraft or cubesats.
  • Registered as either an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or a Registered Scientist (RSci).
  • Demonstrable breadth and depth in managing technical delivery across diverse system-of-systems environments.
