Evodia Limited is partnering with a leading Defence company to identify a skilled Senior Naval Communications Engineer for a critical contract based in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in naval communications systems to contribute to high-profile projects supporting the Royal Navy’s operational capabilities.
About the Role
In this role, you will be pivotal in leading the development of cutting-edge naval communications systems and integrated test strategies within complex projects. You will be working on Programme Atlantic NET, focused on enhancing Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) data services and supporting future autonomy facing programmes within the Navy.
Location & Working Arrangements
The role is based in Bristol, requiring a minimum of 2 onsite days per week, including Wednesdays and either Tuesdays or Thursdays.
Contract Details
- Duration: 20 May 2026 to 31 March 2027 for up to 153 days
- Day Rate: £550 - £650 (inside IR35)
- Security Clearance: SC Clearance minimum is required
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of an Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance Plan (ITEAP) for Atlantic NET, focusing on delivering reliable ASW detection capabilities.
- Stakeholder engagement and oversight for the validation and verification of technical solutions in a complex maritime environment.
- Support the development of tools and processes for Above Water Battlespace integrated air missile defence (IAMD) capabilities, including bandwidth, latency, and electromagnetic signature analysis.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams to translate capability requirements into robust architectural design solutions, integrating modern naval technology with defence standards.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Chartered Senior Communication Engineer or a similar professional with a minimum of 5 years’ post-chartership experience (or 9+ years' relevant experience if not chartered).
- Proven leadership in Naval Communications System design or operational engineering, including concept/pre-concept activities for platforms.
- Demonstrable experience in voice and data transfer systems, secure communications, and integration within naval environments.
- Recent experience (last 5 years) in IAMD, test & evaluation, command and control, and autonomous systems engineering.
- Strong understanding of modern naval tech, including disaggregated systems, modern communication standards, and innovative solutions to enhance sensing and operational coverage.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with disaggregated or modular SENSE, DECIDE, CONNECT and EFFECT capabilities.
- Knowledge of wireless data transfer, command and control systems, and how autonomous capabilities influence future naval operations.
- Excellent report-writing skills with the ability to produce clear, structured, and impactful documentation within tight deadlines.
