Senior Mechanical Engineer -Maritime - SC cleared

About the Role

This contract position is based in Bristol, offering a mixed presence of 2 to 3 days on-site each week, with the option to work remotely otherwise. The role initially runs until 30 June 2026, with the potential for extension, supporting projects that are critical to UK Defence and maritime security.

The position sits within a strategic enabling environment, working alongside multidisciplinary teams supporting UK Strategic Command. You’ll leverage your extensive mechanical expertise to deliver high-stakes, complex maritime systems aligned with military standards and regulations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical advice on Mechanical and Mechatronic systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, legislation, safety, security, and sustainability.
  • Generate and manage technical requirements, defining essential artefacts and documentation for maritime systems, focusing on in-service support and lifecycle costs.
  • Authorise technical data inputs, updates, and changes necessary for system maturity.
  • Assess hazards and project impacts, contributing to risk reduction measures and their documentation.
  • Design systems, components, or processes that meet technical and operational requirements within project constraints.
  • Collaborate with sub-system teams, managing trade-offs to optimise delivery and performance.
  • Oversee system testing, verification, validation, and evaluation activities.
  • Support operational modifications, system support, and the decommissioning of equipment.
  • Lead assurance, audit, and review processes, providing authoritative recommendations in your technical domain.

About You

  • Hold a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics qualification at RQF Level 4 or above.
  • Extensive experience in providing technical leadership and delivery within the maritime domain, specifically on Mechanical or Mechatronic systems.
  • Proven ability to advise, influence, and lead successful project outcomes in complex defence environments.
  • Professional registration as either an Incorporate Engineer (IEng), Registered Scientist (RSci), or Incorporated Marine Engineer (IMarEng).
  • Security clearance: SC (or ability to obtain).
  • Prior experience within DE&S is desirable but not essential.

Contract Details

  • Duration: ASAP until 30 June 2026, with scope to extend.
  • Daily Rate: £420 – £570 (inside IR35, ex VAT)
  • Hours: 7.5 hours per day
