OVERVIEW
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will be an expert in your field, skilled in multiple disciplines, a role model in Infrastructure operations and have proven experience in the design, development and support of infrastructure services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading Infrastructure Services/Solutions ensuring they are aligned to achieve IT and Departmental strategy and delivered aligned to departmental and user needs, deliver value for money and are technically stable
- Be tasked to deliver valuable pieces of work to advance Data Platforms product offerings in line with our Vision, Mission Statement and Business Plan
- Work with and maintain operational relationships with suppliers ensuring services and products are delivered aligned to industry best practice, regulatory and contractual requirements
- Act as a major incident manager and escalation point for all service-related incidents
- Responsibility of the leading a team of Senior Engineers, providing expert advice or dealing with complex problems and providing specialist service/solution technical support
- Provide updates for the risk register for individual technical area, ensuring appropriate management and mitigation plans and actions are implemented
- Work closely with other senior leaders and teams, sharing information, providing advice and support around technical choices and implementation approach.
- Providing specialist knowledge and experience to input into the wider digital infrastructure strategy and development roadmap
- Oracle Database technologies (RAC, Dataguard, RMAN Backup and Recovery) and Public Cloud Technologies (particularly OCI and AWS)
- Writing Infrastructure as Code and debugging Terraform and Ansible
- Managing and maintaining Security procedures including:
- a. Implementing network segregation in a public cloud environment (preferably AWS)
- b. Incorporating transport encryption to protect data in transit (preferably Oracle)
- c. Understanding implementation of database encryption options (preferably Oracle)
- Conducting Migration Testing (preferably through Oracle and AWS) and implementing secure authentication with OIDC for GitLab runners
- Maintaining and updating repositories with Git.
Skills & Experience
Essential Skills
- Strong OCI experience at a senior level is the critical requirement:
- This is the key skill we need to see clearly evidenced on CVs to progress candidates
- Strong hands on experience with Oracle Base Database
- Require candidates with a solid grounding in day-to-day BAU delivery:
- This is important given that project timelines can shift, and operational support remains essential.
- This combination would enable the successful candidate to:
- Bring additional capability into the team and support upskilling of existing colleagues
- Take on BAU operational workload, freeing others to focus on more complex or strategic activity
- Provide support on more complex queries, including design work
- In summary, we are looking for a well-rounded individual with strong, recent (last five years) experience in both OCI and Exadata.
Technical Skills
- Oracle RDBMS 11.2-23ai experience of supporting Oracle RAC including ASM, AFD, HANFS, TAF. Additional experience of multitenant, TDE and TLS desirable.
- Specifically in a Linux/Aix OS environment
- RMAN Backup and recovery
- OEM, OCI’s Db Management
- Patching and Upgrade experience
- Track record of supporting highly available mission critical databases
- Dataguard setup and configuration
- Data migration tooling Datapump, Golden Gate, ZDM
- Exadata and Base Database configuration experience in OCI.
