Are you an experienced Safety Engineer with a strong background in Defence systems and Safety Management? We're working with a key client in the defence sector based in Bristol, seeking a Safety Manager to join their Special Projects Tactical Communications (SPTC) team. This role offers a hybrid working pattern, two days per week onsite, and a contract term until the end of June 2027, with potential for extension.
What you’ll do
- Lead the development and assurance of safety assessments, hazard logs, and Safety Management Plans across complex defence equipment projects.
- Provide expert guidance on Safety policy compliance, ensuring systems are ALARP and safe for operational use.
- Facilitate hazard analysis processes such as HAZOP, FTA, and FMEA to derive safety and environmental requirements.
- Engage stakeholders at all levels, including Chief Engineers and suppliers, presenting evidence-based safety arguments and supporting decision-making.
- Support governance activities, including internal reporting, safety panels, and delegation boards, ensuring all safety-related documentation aligns with MOD and Defence standards.
Who you are
- Extensive experience in system safety policy, safety management tools, and processes, especially within a defence acquisition context.
- Strong knowledge of Defence Standards, such as DEF STAN 00-056, and experience in managing safety policies and procedures in defence projects.
- Proven ability to manage safety risk throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance and safety integrity.
- Member of a recognised Safety Institute or professional body, with a Chartered or Incorporated Engineering status being desirable.
- Experience delivering safety into the Land, Air, or Maritime military environments is a plus.
- SC Clearance is essential, DV clearance is desirable, and UK nationality is required.
