SUMMARY
This role sits within a dedicated Skill Group alongside other engineers working within the technical discipline of Safety Engineering.
As a Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting in the delivery of Acquisition Safety policy and solutions. It involves through life management of project safety risk management delivery in support of safe and suitable equipment, systems, and services to Front Line Commands.
Specialisms associated with this Skill Group/Success Profile are:
System Safety Policy and Governance; System Safety Management; and System Safety Assurance and Audit.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Requirements – Support the generation of technical safety requirements and documentation for subsystems, including the considerations to in-service support and associated costs.
- Technical Data – Identify, collate, and evaluate technical safety data to support the management and
- maturity of project documentation, focusing on successful technical outcomes.
- Legislation/Policy – Working in a highly regulated area, differentiate and comply with relevant safety legislation, regulation, policy, processes, and standards to deliver technical documentation for a subsystem. This includes the essential relation to quality, safety, security, and sustainability, of the subsystem, and the interoperability with other sub-systems.
- Risk – Contributes to technical risk management activities at project / programme level.
- Design – Support the generation, update and review of all safety artifacts and safety cases related to an equipment type.
- Stakeholder Management – Collaborate with other sub-system teams and specialists, over technical safety requirements.
- V&V – Support in the system’s safety: test, verification, validation, and evaluation process.
- Support – Assist in the safety decisions in through-life support and modification to an operational subsystem.
- Assurance – Support technical assurance activities within the limit of your technical discipline.
- Disposal – Support disposals and decommissioning of basic equipment.
- Technical Discipline – Draft recommendations in relation to your technical area of knowledge.
EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
- Have some experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes;
- Experience of:
- System Safety Policy and Governance;
- System Safety Management;
- System Safety Assurance and Audit
- As a minimum hold either:
- A Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 3; or
- Professional registration as either:
- o Engineering Technician (EngTech) or
- o Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).
