At Evodia Limited, we’re proud to partner with innovative organisations operating at the forefront of defence, aerospace, and space technology. Currently, we’re supporting a leading company seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join their dynamic team in Farnborough, Hampshire, with hybrid working options. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer ready to lead complex product development within the secure, high-stakes environment of government-approved satellite and encryption systems. If you possess over 7 years’ experience delivering sophisticated technical solutions across the whole systems engineering lifecycle, this role could be the perfect fit.
Successful candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain a UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
The Role
As the Principal Systems Engineer, you'll define and lead the technical architecture of cutting-edge security devices used in critical government and defence networks. Working alongside talented engineers from electronics, FPGA, software, and mechanical disciplines, you’ll guide product phases from concept through to deployment, providing strategic insight and technical oversight.
What you will do:
- System Architecture & Definition: Serve as the technical authority for product features, system behaviour, and design trade-offs.
- Requirements Engineering: Lead requirements elicitation and management with tools like IBM DOORS, ensuring clarity across all engineering domains.
- Engineering Leadership: Guide development teams, identify risks early, investigate root causes, and drive resolution.
- Lifecycle & Qualification: Oversee verification, validation, and environmental qualification processes, ensuring compliance and readiness for customer acceptance.
- Bids & Estimates: Support commercial teams with detailed engineering estimates for bids and proposals.
- Customer Interaction: Engage directly with defence clients to refine requirements and confirm the end product aligns with operational needs.
Ideal Candidate
You’ll bring:
- 7+ years’ experience in defence, aerospace, or space sectors, developing physical electronic/software products.
- A relevant degree (Engineering, Electronic Design, Physics, or similar).
- A solid track record in delivering complex solutions within the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, architecture, and verification.
- Proficiency with system design languages such as SysML or UML, and techniques like use case analysis and trade studies.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to negotiate technical requirements confidently with defence customers.
- British nationality and eligibility for UK DV clearance or current clearance status.
Desirable extras include experience with defence standards (e.g., DEF STAN, MIL-STD), NCSC CAPS assurance, and estimates for bid activities.
