Join a leading Defence company in Bristol as a One Way Effector Safety Manager on a contract basis. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge weapon systems development within a highly respected organisation.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the OBI Lead & Chief Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing and executing the Safety Management System for urgent One Way Effector capability requirements. Your work will ensure that safety and environmental standards are embedded throughout the project lifecycle, from initial development to testing and potential overseas deployment.
Location & Travel
Based in Bristol, this role requires onsite presence for 2 days a week. There will be regular travel within the UK, including to London, supplier premises, and UK ranges. Overseas travel may also be involved depending on testing locations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing and managing the Safety & Environmental Management Plan, aligned with industry safety standards.
- Leading safety process development and securing necessary endorsements for safety artefacts.
- Providing expert advice on technical data assurance and safety matters to senior stakeholders.
- Coordinating with airworthiness authorities, establishing safe testing protocols, and managing risks.
- Assessing hazards and contributing to safety documentation to support system testing.
- Advising project teams on safety standards, environmental considerations, and contractual safety requirements.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with Def Stan 00-056 and ASEMS.
- Qualified System Safety Practitioner with proven OME Safety experience.
- Experience managing the development and integration of novel weapon systems.
- Track record in complex weapons development and testing programmes.
- Knowledge of OSRP processes and working with multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in executing safety from project initiation.
- Qualifications or experience in OME assurance.
- Innovative approaches to safety and delivery.
- Proven ability to manage supplier relationships through initial to full-rate production stages.
Contract Details

- Minimum SC security clearance.
- Contract length: initially 90 days with potential to extend.
- Day rate: £420 to £570 (inside IR35).
