Naval Architect - SC cleared

Are you an experienced Naval Architect looking for an exciting contract opportunity within the defence sector? Evodia Limited is seeking a Naval Architect with SC clearance to support our client’s innovative project based in Bristol. This role offers flexible hybrid working, requiring just two days onsite each week, making it an ideal opportunity for professionals who value a dynamic and collaborative environment. As a key contributor to this high-profile project, you will bring your expertise in warship design, deep-sea operations, and the constraints that shape naval architecture. Your knowledge will help develop a robust value engineering framework for the future Hybrid Navy, evaluating innovative concepts and technologies across multiple platform types—both crewed and uncrewed. This is a contract task starting on 20 May 2026 until 31 March 2027 for up to 102 days of effort.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead design studies to assess and optimise a range of platform concepts, ensuring strategic alignment, operational value, affordability, and deliverability.
  • Develop a comprehensive value engineering framework adaptable for a fleet of diverse vessel types, exploring multiple mission systems and innovative technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including marine engineers, SDE engineers, and cost specialists, to design, evaluate, and refine concepts.
  • Facilitate value engineering workshops across stakeholder groups, analysing outputs and building a reusable decision-support database.
  • Present findings and recommendations within tight deadlines, supporting ongoing project development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by creating tools and methodologies for future value engineering activities.

What we need from you:

  • A degree qualification in Naval Architecture or Ship Science.
  • At least 5 years’ post-chartership experience in naval architecture; candidates without Chartership must demonstrate a minimum of 9 years’ relevant experience and professional development.
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects or an equivalent professional body.
  • Proven experience in warship design methods, deep-sea operational constraints, and modern naval or commercial platform development.
  • Skilled in Multi Criteria Decision Analysis and capable of evaluating complex, multi-stakeholder design options objectively and subjectively.
  • Hands-on experience with warship concept design, offboard systems, and an understanding of naval cost models.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams and facilitation of stakeholder workshops.

Desirable:

  • Recent experience conducting value engineering on warships or similar complex defence systems.
  • Knowledge of emerging maritime trends such as uncrewed solutions and offboard systems.
  • Familiarity with innovative platform concepts, alternative materials, and advanced modelling techniques, including AI and probabilistic simulations.
