Naval Architect - SC cleared (DV preferred)

Are you a DV or SC cleared Naval Architect with specialised experience in submarine hydrodynamics and propulsion? Evodia Limited is supporting a leading client in Defence with an exciting contract opportunity based in Bristol, with the flexibility of hybrid working—just 3 days onsite each week.

About the Role

This contract position offers the chance to join a dedicated team responsible for certifying and developing rules for Submarine Naval Architecture. You will work on vital safety and performance standards, including Certification for Key Hazard Areas such as Manoeuvring & Control (M&C) and Stability. As a technical lead in the MSCA areas, your expertise will support R&D activities within submarine hydromechanics, ensuring the operational safety and capability of vessels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support assessment and certification of submarine stability and propulsion systems.
  • Manage long-term R&D strategies for propulsor technology and chair the Propulsor Working Group.
  • Perform assurance reviews into Stability Key Hazards, acting as a Naval Authority Reviewing Officer.
  • Support the development of technical guidance and standards in submarine hydromechanics.
  • Lead and mentor graduate Naval Architects, fostering development within the team.
  • Support international project tasks, with potential travel as necessary.
  • Contribute to project management and business activities, including commercial and financial responsibilities.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Naval Architect (Master’s level or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in submarine hydrodynamics and propulsion systems, including verification & validation techniques.
  • SC security clearance minimum, however, DV clearance is highly desirable.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of acoustic theory, measurement techniques, and professional accreditation (CEng/MRINA).

Details

  • Location: Bristol, 3 days per week onsite with flexible hybrid options.
  • Start Date: ASAP, with contract until 30 June 2026, scope to extend.
  • Day Rate: Between £420 and £570 (inside IR35).
  • Standard hours: 7.5 per day.
