Are you an experienced Environmental professional with a background in defence projects and environmental management systems? We’re working with a leading client in the defence sector to find an Environmental Lead for their high-profile Mobile Fires Platform (MFP) project. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a government-funded initiative delivering next-generation artillery capabilities for the British Army.
Location: Bristol / Hybrid (2-3 days onsite per week)
Contract Length: Until 31 March 2027, with the possibility of extension
Security Clearance: SC clearance is essential
Working Hours: 7.5 hours per day, 4 days per week (30 hours)
Day Rate: Up to £570 (inside IR35)
Role Overview
This project is a top priority for Defence, delivering the RCH155 Howitzer, a state-of-the-art self-propelled artillery system. As the Environmental Lead, you'll be instrumental in ensuring environmental aspects and contractual deliverables are met across the contracts, including the Early Concept Demonstrator (ECD), Qualification Range, and Series Production phases. Your expertise will support practical environmental risk management in a fast-paced defence environment, contributing directly to national security and capability advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead environmental management activities for the ECD, QRA, and production contracts, ensuring compliance with MoD policy requirements.
- Produce, review, and endorse environmental artefacts aligned with contract milestones.
- Identify environmental impacts and evaluate risks, advocating mitigation measures that reduce risks to BEPO standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective Environmental Management Systems within a complex matrix organisation.
- Manage environmental acceptance criteria, scrutinising contractor V&V data through test, verification, and validation activities.
- Participate in audits, assurance activities, and reviews, preparing documentation for internal and external scrutiny.
- Support decision-makers with informed environmental advice via Project Environmental Panels.
What We’re Looking For
- Chartered or Incorporated status in engineering or science, with relevant professional affiliation (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM).
- Extensive experience in the use of ASEMS and environmental management tools and processes.
- Proven track record in environmental protection roles, with experience developing Environmental Management Systems in complex projects.
- Practitioner status in environmental practices and relevant CPD from DE&S environmental courses.
- Minimum Level 4 NQF qualification in an engineering or science discipline.
Desirable
Knowledge of military land vehicles and systems would be beneficial, but your extensive environmental management expertise is the key focus.
