Mechanical & Automotive Lead - SC cleared

Evodia is proud to partner with a leading defence client to source a highly skilled Mechanical & Automotive Lead for a pivotal project based in Bristol. If you hold SC clearance and have experience with military land vehicles, this role could be an excellent match for your expertise.

About the role

This contract position is dedicated to the Mobile Fires Platform (MFP) project, a top priority initiative for the UK MOD. You’ll work in a collaborative environment supporting the development and integration of next-generation land vehicle systems, specifically focusing on verification, validation, safety engineering, and hazard management of military artillery platforms, including the RCH155 Howitzer.

The role offers a flexible hybrid working model, requiring just two days onsite in Bristol each week, with an initial contract until 31 March 2027. The role’s day rate is up to £600 (ex VAT), inside IR35, reflecting the seniority and specialist nature of the work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyse technical hazards and project risks, supporting risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review and approve contractor technical data, ensuring compliance and managing issues through to closure.
  • Support legalisation assessments, technical assurance, and manage non-conformances.
  • Oversee system testing, verification, validation, and evaluation processes.
  • Participate in assurance activities, audits, and technical reviews.
  • Contribute to safety panels and hazard log working groups, supporting safety assurance.

What we’re looking for

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Proven ability in hazard identification and risk analysis in complex systems.
  • Experience managing risk reduction measures and technical non-conformances.
  • Strong background in system testing, validation, and verification activities.
  • Experience in engineering assurance, audits, and technical reviews.
  • Ability to review and author technical documentation and oversee safety processes.

Desirable: Knowledge or previous experience working on military land vehicles and associated systems, with an understanding of hazards, safety case development, and system integration.

Additionally, applicants should ideally be professionally registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or hold equivalent recognised accreditation.
