Our client is recruiting for an SC or DV cleared Lead Engineer for the delivery of the for the delivery of the RAF Fylingdales Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR) Operations & Maintenance (O&M). This is a contract role starting ASAP until 31/03/2026. The role offers a day rate of between £600 and £750 per day (Inside IR35) and  hybrid working arrangement between working from home and being onsite in Bristol. 

Due to the nature of the role and the timescales involved candidates must already hold an active SC clearance and be willing and eligible to undergo DV clearance checks.

OVERVIEW

Lead Engineer for the delivery of the RAF Fylingdales Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) relet. Provide System of systems thinking to lead, manage and generate engineering tasks, artefacts to support Project and contracting/contract activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer for the delivery of the Engineering for an OBI in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements.

The Lead Engineer is likely to hold a Safety Delegation in accordance with ASEMS Leaflet 17/2023.

The Lead Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer for the Engineering Management Plan for their scope of work and the management of technical authorship within their scope of work. This includes being accountable for all Engineering owned information products applicable to the project.

OBIs will articulate the engineering products, activities or services to be undertaken in an Engineering Management Plan. A Lead Engineer will usually be assigned to generate the Engineering Management Plan and work with the OBI Team Lead to prioritise and allocate the engineering resource.

The Lead Engineer shall:

  • Adhere to appropriate engineering processes including the application of GEAR (Tailored according to risks), including but not limited to, JSP440 and JSP604, DefStan 00-051 and 00-056, and adherence to other relevant government, industry and domain standards.
  • Ensure the Subject Matter Experts authoring, reviewing or approving Engineering Function content within their scope of work are competent to do so.
  • The Lead Engineer is specifically responsible for the EMP, GEAR Review Report and Common Engineering WBS Tool.
  • File documents in accordance with the “Manage Information” process
  • Manage technical risk and use engineering judgement to escalate where necessary.
  • Plan and manage the development or maintenance of the equipment safety case.
  • Lead the team of engineers assigned to the team.
  • Promote an open safety culture in the engineering team, including psychological safety where team members are encouraged to raise technical concerns.
  • Facilitating effective communication between Engineering, ODF, PM across the team and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the Space DT at RAF Stakeholder and customer meetings to provide engineering input, guidance and recommendations, Ensuring the correct application of relevant guidance and policy

EXPERIENCE

  • Delivery and sustainment of Phased Array Radar and sensor systems
  • Installation and replacement of Power and distribution systems
  • Installation and replacement of Network information systems
  • Working in an ITAR/TAA environment
  • Working with RAF Site Co-ordinating Installation Design Authority (SCIDA) and compliance to JSP604 leaflet 4800.
  • Writing system Operation and Maintenance requirements
  • Monitoring contractor performance though engineering KPIs
