Are you an experienced Safety Engineer with a passion for supporting UK defence programmes? We're working with a trusted client to find SC cleared Lead Safety Engineers for an exciting, high-profile project. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with travel to key DE&S sites, including MOD Abbey Wood and other UK defence establishments, as needed.
What’s on offer?
- Duration: Typically 3 to 5 months, with potential for extension based on programme needs
- Day Rate: Up to £805 per day (Inside IR35)
- Location: Hybrid, with travel to defence sites across the UK
- Clearance: Currently SC clearance required, within the last 6 months
About the programme
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a major defence initiative, supporting a range of high-profile projects across Maritime, Air, Land, and other critical domains. You will be a vital part of resource augmentation efforts, ensuring that safety standards are upheld for some of the UK’s most complex and demanding defence systems.
Your role and responsibilities
- Providing authoritative Safety Leadership and technical advice across projects
- Leading safety activities, hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety case development
- Conducting independent reviews, audits, and assurance activities to ensure compliance with ASEMS, MOD policies, and international standards
- Managing hazard logs, safety requirements, and supporting safety governance throughout the project lifecycle
- Developing safety policies and best practice standards, fostering continuous improvement
- Engaging stakeholder communication—both technical and non-technical—to influence decisions and support safety priorities
What we’re looking for
- Extensive experience in System Safety Engineering within defence or regulated environments
- Proven track record delivering Acquisition Safety in defence programmes
- Strong understanding of hazard analysis, safety cases, risk management, and safety management systems
- Experience leading safety assurance activities across multiple systems or projects
- Knowledge of UK defence acquisition processes, ASEMS, and relevant legislation
- Degree in Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field, with professional membership (e.g., IMechE, IET, RAeS)
- Chartered status (CEng or IEng) or progress towards registration is preferred
- Must hold an active SC security clearance
