Lead Safety Engineer - Land Systems

We are working in partnership with a leading client to appoint a Senior Safety Engineer specialising in Land Systems. This is a pivotal role requiring an experienced professional to lead and oversee critical acquisition safety activities within the land domain.

Position Overview

Based in Bristol, the role requires a commitment of 3 to 4 days per week onsite, offering a dynamic environment where your expertise will ensure safety standards are upheld across complex land-based projects. The contract is initially scheduled until 31 March 2026, with the potential for extension, providing an excellent opportunity for sustained impact within a reputable organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide authoritative Acquisition Safety advice within a major delivery area or Operating Centre, ensuring compliance with UK, EU, and MOD legislation and standards.
  • Lead the development, review, and continuous improvement of Safety policies and processes according to corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews, audits, and inspections to assess safety performance and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Support the management of improvement plans associated with Acquisition Safety implementation.
  • Undertake independent assessments of safety work to ensure technical solutions effectively manage safety risks while maintaining project performance.
  • Contribute to maintaining technical safety integrity across projects, overseeing the safety assurance process from inception through delivery.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, with relevant professional membership (Safety or Engineering Institute).
  • Extensive experience within the Land domain, demonstrating a deep understanding of System Safety disciplines.
  • Proven expertise using ASEMS and related System Safety Management tools and processes.
  • Previous experience leading or managing acquisition safety teams in high-risk, high-consequence environments.
  • A relevant Level 6 (or equivalent) qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • A current and active SC security clearance.

Additional Details

  • Day Rate: £550 to £770 (excluding VAT)
  • IR35 Status: Inside
  • Working Hours: 7.5 hours per day
