Our client, a leading organisation in the defence sector, is seeking a Contract Lead OME Engineer to join their team in Bristol. About the Role
As the Lead OME Engineer working within Ships Acquisition, you will provide expert, senior-level technical advice across a broad portfolio of systems. Your expertise will be key in managing the design, development, and modification of OME systems such as complex weapons, munitions, and pyrotechnic devices, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.
You'll be responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams, developing technical requirements, authorising technical data, and supporting successful delivery of outcomes aligned with client expectations. Additionally, you'll oversee assurance activities, manage risk mitigation strategies, and contribute to maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and standards, including Def Stan 05-57.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage engineers, generating technical requirements and deliverables for OME systems.
- Act as the technical authority, reviewing and authorising engineering documentation, ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Implement policies and standards, updating regulation documentation and contributing to industry standards updates.
- Lead risk management initiatives, embedding safety and environmental priorities into system design.
- Support the lifecycle management of operational systems, including modifications, certification assessments, and decommissioning processes.
- Guide and coach colleagues, ensuring best practice in OME specialism across projects.
- Participate in design reviews, assurance activities, and audits to uphold quality and compliance standards.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proven experience of providing senior technical advice on OME in defence projects, especially within the military Ships domain.
- Extensive knowledge in systems engineering approaches related to OME systems.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary projects with a track record of successful engineering outcomes.
- Chartered status as a professional engineer or scientist (CEng, CSci, CMarTech, CChem, or CPhys).
- Active SC security clearance is essential.
