Flood Risk and Hydrology Consultant

SUMMARY

 

This role forms part of the flood risk team in the Environmental Services Capability. Short term Hybrid role based in London to start in late January 2026.

 

As part of our plans, we are looking for a Flood Risk and Hydrology experienced Consultant to join our team supporting the flood and coastal risk and sector. On joining us you will play a key role in delivering flood risk studies and enhancing our capabilities in relation to helping our clients adapt to a changing climate. 

 

As a Flood Risk Consultant you will enjoy a varied role as you will help deliver flood modelling and mapping projects to schedule and budget, while meeting client and corporate expectations. You will be contributing to technical studies to define flood risk to people and property and the preparation of Business Cases for investment in flood risk management measures.

 

The client is a regional centre for the development and sales of the TUFLOW hydraulic modelling software for flood, urban drainage, estuarine and coastal assessments and is proactive in utilising the new developments in this internationally respected software.

 

You will be part of a growing flood risk team engaged in consultancy projects in the following areas:

 

  • Strategic Flood Risk Assessments
  • Flood Risk Assessments and Modelling
  • Hydrological Assessments
  • Preparation of Strategic / Outline Business Cases
  • River and catchment scale water quality modelling

 

The role presents the opportunity to work from time to time with colleagues working in Australia and Canada, on flood risk consultancy and the application of the TUFLOW modelling suite.

 

This role will also provide technical leadership for more junior team members.

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • You will be familiar with applying UK-standard practices in flood risk and hydrology assessment to help clients better understand and manage river and coastal flood risk.
  • Hold at least a BSc in an environmental science related to river hydraulics and hydrology or a mathematical subject, and an MSc or PhD would be beneficial.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the following areas: flood risk, hydrology, hydrodynamic modelling, and business case preparation. 
    • Specific expertise in relation to hydrology assessment would be a significant advantage.
  • As much of our work is directly customer focused, your effective communication skills and ability to present professionally both verbally and in writing are essential skills for this role.
  • will be self-motivated with a proactive approach to continual professional development.
