ASRAAM Safety Engineer - SC cleared

Are you an experienced Safety Engineer with a background in missile systems? Do you hold SC clearance and are ready to make an impact within a leading defence environment? If so, we have an exciting opportunity based in Bristol that combines technical challenge with flexibility. Our client is seeking a dedicated ASRAAM Safety Engineer to support their innovative programme, working on the next generation of missile safety and environmental management. This role offers a hybrid working model, requiring 1 to 2 days onsite each week, giving you the balance between collaboration and flexibility.

About the Role

As the Safety Engineer, you'll provide expert support during the Concept phase of the Future ASRAAM BL7 programme. You’ll play a key part in developing safety and environmental inputs, aiming to qualify the missile swiftly and efficiently for in-service deployment. Your work will ensure safety systems are robust, compliant, and aligned with industry standards, with opportunities to contribute to risk assessments, safety case reports, and in-service safety management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain safety and environmental management systems for the ASRAAM Block 6 platform, ensuring alignment with regulations and policy.
  • Develop key safety artefacts, including SECR, SMP, EMP, Hazard Log, and EFM, supporting the programme’s safety case.
  • Conduct detailed safety risk assessments, considering factors like service life extension and accidental event impacts.
  • Provide SME input for airworthiness documentation, including the Air Launched Weapons Release Certificate.
  • Support project meetings and technical forums, such as JDT, JMT, and JPTT, ensuring safety and environmental considerations are integrated into decision-making.
  • Lead safety-related working groups and panels, fostering collaboration and transparency.
  • Contribute to audits and review processes, maintaining high standards of safety assurance.
  • Offer safety expertise during in-service incident reviews and safety case re-assessments.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics qualification at RQF Level 4 or above.
  • Experience in providing technical advice and leading the successful delivery of safety systems in defence or aerospace environments.
  • Membership and professional registration with a recognised body, such as IEng, RSci, CEng, or CSci.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in delivering safety engineering or safety management for missile systems.

  • Contract Duration: Until 30 September 2026 (with scope to extend)
  • Day Rate: £420 to £570 (inside IR35)
  • Standard Hours: 7.5 hours per day
