About the Role

This is a pivotal position within the AJAX Programme, part of the Land Combat Vehicles Portfolio, supporting the assurance and acceptance of military vehicles. You’ll play a key role in managing concessions, supporting design modifications, and providing expert safety advice. Acting as deputy to the Concessions Engineer, you’ll ensure safety processes remain seamless and compliant, contributing directly to critical defence projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage and coordinate safety-related concessions, ensuring proper assessment, documentation, and approval.
  • Collaborate closely with safety functions to align concessions with safety policies and risk management strategies.
  • Support design modification activities by reviewing safety implications and providing engineering input to maintain compliance.
  • Deputise for the Concessions Engineer, maintaining the continuity of safety activities.
  • Liaise with engineering and project teams to facilitate resolution of safety issues related to concessions and modifications.
  • Keep accurate records of concessions, safety assessments, and approvals.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety procedures and best practices.
  • Contribute to safety audits, reviews, and reporting processes, ensuring regulatory compliance.

Candidate Profile

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • Professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience providing technical safety advice and leading safety system delivery within complex projects.
  • A strong understanding of safety regulations, standards, and risk management in a defence environment.
  • Experience in managing concessions, design modifications, and safety assurance activities.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Formal safety qualifications or training.
  • Experience within an engineering production environment or managing safety within GMPP/CAT A programmes.

Contract Details

  • Duration: Until 31 March 2027 (with scope for extension)
  • Location: Bristol (1 day/week onsite), Merthyr Tydfil (2 days/week onsite), and WFH (2 days/week)
  • Travel expenses to Merthyr Tydfil covered
  • Day Rate: Up to £600 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Security Clearance: SC clearance minimum
  • Working hours: 7.5 hours per day
