AJAX In-Service Project Engineer - SC cleared

We are seeking a In-Service Project Engineer to support the ongoing operation and delivery of in-service support for the AJAX fleet. This role offers a mixture of onsite and remote working, based in Bristol with a flexible hybrid approach - three days per week on site in Bristol, one day in Merthyr Tydfil and one day working from home.

About the Role

This position sits within the In-service Pillar of the AJAX programme, managed by the National Armaments Director Group. Your focus will be on supporting engineering activities aimed at maintaining operational readiness, engaging with multidisciplinary teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Reporting to the In-service Engineering Manager, you'll be instrumental in ensuring engineering support aligns with project standards and stakeholder expectations.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Coordinate engineering activities to uphold operational readiness
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and external stakeholders to identify and resolve engineering issues
  • Monitor in-service engineering issues, escalating concerns as needed to mitigate operational impact
  • Provide technical data and progress updates to the pillar lead, supporting Deputy duties where necessary
  • Collaborate with logistics, maintenance, and supply chain teams to meet engineering support requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on quality and reliability
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations
  • Maintain comprehensive records of engineering issues, solutions, and decisions

Candidate Profile

To be considered, you will need:

  • A suitable Engineering qualification (HNC or higher)
  • Professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or equivalent
  • Proven experience in providing technical advice and delivering successful engineering outputs within complex programmes

Desirable experience includes asset management, in-service military equipment, and working on large engineering projects with diverse stakeholder groups.

Details & Benefits

  • Location: Hybrid working, Bristol-based (3 days onsite), with flexibility to work from Merthyr Tydfil and from home
  • Contract length: Until 31 March 2027, with scope for extension
  • Security clearance: SC clearance required
  • Day rate: Up to £420 (inside IR35)
  • Standard hours: 7.5 per day
