ROLE OVERVIEW
The individual will report to the AJAX Engineering Lead as their Task Manager. However, they may also be tasked by the Demonstration Pillar lead, and other senior stakeholders.
KEY TASKS
The role is to act as the Human Factors Subject Matter Expert on the AJAX programme. It will require working closely with the prime contractor (General Dynamics) and army stakeholders to assure deliver of design solutions where key Human Factors considerations are key.
This tasking is directly to deliver the outstanding Human Factor aspects of the AJAX Programme. These tasks will directly support the closure of the Demonstration/V&V programme and of key actions captured by the recent Army Safety Investigation Team (ASIT) following the Titan Storm incident in November 2025.
There will be two key workstreams that make up this tasking.
- Support to Demonstration/V&V/Systems acceptance activity.
- Support to the recent ASIT investigation and outputs from Titan Storm.
The outcome at which these tasks are considered complete is summarise below:
- Closure and acceptance of all System Requirements and outstanding design changes related to human factors concerns.
- Closure of all ASIT/Titan Storm actions with Human Factors related concerns.
EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
- Experience in Human Factors Engineering (HFE) or Human Factors Integration (HFI).
- Proven experience working within Defence, Military, Aerospace or highly regulated engineering environments.
- Experience supporting requirements verification, validation (V&V) and systems acceptance activities.
- Ability to assess and influence the delivery of engineering design solutions where human factors are critical to safety and performance.
- Experience managing and resolving Human Factors-related engineering issues and risks.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working alongside industry partners, government organisations and end users.
- Experience producing technical reports, evidence and recommendations to support engineering decisions and programme delivery. [
- Relevant degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, Engineering or a related discipline.
DESIRABLE
- Previous experience on the AJAX programme.
- Experience of military vehicle, armoured vehicle or land systems programmes
- Experience supporting safety investigations, corrective actions and lessons-learned activities
- Familiarity with Human Machine Interface (HMI) design and evaluation.
- Knowledge of Human Systems Integration (HSI) methodologies.
- Experience working with MOD, DE&S, Dstl or Defence primes such as General Dynamics, BAE Systems, Leonardo or Thales.
- Professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF) or equivalent.
